What You Need to Know About Big Changes to Disney’s Disability Access Service
The new changes are aimed at addressing misuse of the DAS Benefit and to ensure it is used fairly and only by those that truly need it.
DAS is offered at the Walt Disney World Resort as well as the Disneyland Resort to “accommodate only those Guests who, due to a developmental disability such as autism or a similar disorder, are unable to wait in a conventional queue for an extended period of time.
DAS will offer return times for registered Guests that are similar to current standby times.
Disney has significantly narrowed the scope of eligibility for those who qualify for DAS.
The DAS travel party size has been reduced to 3 Guests in addition to the DAS Guest.
Disney claims the abuse of DAS has been the primary cause for extended wait times in the Genie+ Lightning Lanes and occupies a significant quantity of available Lightning Lane Inventory.
Disney is partnering with Inspire Health Alliance to help cast members to determine a Guest’s eligibility.
Registration will only be done via live video chat. The Guests (or parent/guardian if the guests is under the age of 18) will speak to a cast member via video chat to determine eligibility as soon as 30 days before their park visit.
Currently, live chat is available in English only.
There will no longer be on-site registration at theme park guest relations.
If DAS is provided following the live chat, the Guest (or parent/guardian) will participate in the registration process. This will require having a photo taken of the DAS Registered Guest and up to 3 additional travel party members.
DAS is valid for the length of the ticket or 120 days, whichever is shorter. Once the service has elapsed, Guests will need to reregister.
If it is determined that any of the statements a Guests made in the process of obtaining DAS are not true, the Guests will be permanently barred from entering Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort, and any previously purchased Annual Passes, Magic Key Passes, tickets, or other park products or services will be forfeited and not refunded.
DAS is only valid at the issuing resort.
DAS registered Guests and their travel party will be able to book, redeem, change or cancel DAS return times using the My Disney Experience app via smart phone or other smart device. If additional assistance is needed, Guests can also obtain return times from cast members at any Guest Relations or Guest Experience Team location.
Guests are welcome to enjoy other rides, shows, concerts, parades, character greetings, dining, and shopping while waiting for their DAS return time.
Any member of the DAS Guest’s travel party may obtain a return time, but the DAS Guest must be present and experience the attraction with their party.
DAS return times are not limited to a specific window and are valid until the park or attraction closes for the day.
A Guest may only have one DAS return time at a time. The Guest may obtain another return time for the same or different attraction 10 minutes after they redeem a return time.
A Guests can hold one active DAS return time and one Virtual Queue Boarding Pass at the same time. Go to the Virtual Queue attraction and speak to a cast member about accessing the queue.
