Disney World is named in a lawsuit filed by a woman claiming that a waterslide at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon has caused severe injuries.
According to Click Orlando, the woman visited the waterpark on May 11th and rode the Humunga Kowabung (link to ride description) waterslide, the fastest and steepest waterslide in the park featuring a five-story, 60-degree drop. The suit alleges that the woman fell unconscious while on the slide after “banging inside the ride.” Her body was discovered at the end of the ride by her fiancé and mother, according to the lawsuit.
The lawsuit also claims that the attendants at the end of the slide were not lifeguards and had to find lifeguards to help the woman. It also claims that blood was coming out of the woman’s mouth when she was found. According to the lawsuit, “Had (Disney) Had lifeguards at the end of the ride to watch and help guests coming off the ride, brain injury would not have occurred as she wouldn’t have been drowning in the water coughing up blood.”
According to records, the woman’s fiancé pulled her from the water, but after a lifeguard arrived, they couldn’t help or touch her, so an ambulance was called. The woman is seeking $50,000 in damages, as well as, costs, interest, and attorney’s fees. This is the third lawsuit against Disney has faced in less than a year involving waterslides.
